Art Classes for Kids in Singapore

Art by Ancourage offers structured art enrichment for children from age 3 through secondary school, at studios in Bishan and Woodlands. The MOE refreshed its Primary Art Syllabus in 2024 to emphasise deeper interdisciplinary learning across a wider range of media and themes (MOE, 2023), and 95% of MOE schools participate in the NAC-Arts Education Programme (NAC). Three age-appropriate programmes provide a clear progression pathway.

All programmes run in small groups of 3–6 children with experienced art instructors — no large classes or assembly-line worksheets. Materials are provided and each child progresses at their own pace while building real artistic skills. We are an MOE-registered centre with $18 art trial classes to help families find the right programme.

Our trial gives each learner the chance to experience the flow of our classes, explore different art mediums used in lessons, and enjoy the process of creating. At the same time, our teachers learn more about each student's needs, interests, and strengths. It's a fun and low-pressure way for children, teens, and adults to see if we're the right fit for their art journey.

Yes. Adults can join our Professional Fine Art Classes, Explorative Art Classes, focused Drawing Classes, Painting Classes, and Art Workshops. We welcome complete beginners and experienced learners alike, with structured instruction in drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques at our Bishan and Woodlands studios.

No prior experience is needed! We welcome complete beginners and design our lessons to meet students where they are. Creative ability is something every child has — Singapore ranked first globally in creative thinking (OECD PISA 2022), reflecting how the education system values and develops these skills. Our tutors build on each child's starting point, developing foundational skills like pencil grip, colour mixing, and composition through engaging projects.

All basic materials are included in the class fee — quality paper, acrylic and watercolour paints, brushes, pencils, and other supplies needed for the lesson. Students are welcome to bring their own preferred art supplies if they wish. There is no need to purchase anything separately before attending.

Our art classes are kept small, typically 3-6 students per class. This ensures every student receives personalised attention, real-time feedback, and individual guidance from our art tutors throughout each session. Small groups allow tutors to adapt techniques to each learner's pace and skill level, which is especially important for hands-on creative disciplines.

Yes! We offer $18 trial art classes so you can experience our teaching approach before committing to regular lessons. During the trial, your child will work on a guided project and receive individual feedback from our art tutors. Book a trial at our Bishan or Woodlands studio.

Yes! We offer dedicated DSA Art Portfolio programmes for students aged 10-18 who want to gain admission to top secondary schools or JCs through their art talent. This includes portfolio development, technical skill building, and interview preparation across multiple art media. Read our DSA art portfolio guide.

Absolutely. Many of our students start with no drawing experience at all. Art is a learnable skill — research in npj Science of Learning (2023) found measurable skill gains after just two semesters of structured art instruction. Our instructors break techniques into clear, manageable steps so every learner sees real progress from the very first session.

Not at all. Many of our adult learners are picking up art again after years away. The NAC Population Survey 2022 found that 59% of Singaporeans attended physical arts events, with childhood arts exposure correlating with higher adult engagement. Our small class sizes (3-6 students) mean you get personal guidance at your own pace.

Art jamming is a casual, self-guided social activity with no formal instruction. Our classes are structured lessons led by experienced art instructors who teach real techniques — composition, colour theory, shading, perspective, and more. Research shows that structured art programmes produce significantly stronger skill development than unstructured activity (Egana-delSol et al., 2023), so you build lasting skills and see measurable progress session after session.

Our Explorative programme is designed specifically for absolute beginners. You will be guided step-by-step through foundational techniques in a supportive, pressure-free environment. No portfolio, prior training, or artistic background is needed — just bring your curiosity. All materials are provided at our Bishan and Woodlands studios.

Yes. We run holiday workshops and intensive programmes during every school break — March, June, September, and year-end holidays — covering a range of themes and mediums. Regular classes also continue year-round with flexible weekday and weekend scheduling, so students can maintain momentum or try something new during the holidays without disrupting their routine.

Students explore drawing (pencil, charcoal, pen and ink), painting (watercolour, acrylic, oil), mixed media, and collage. Older students and adults also practise figure drawing, portrait studies, still life observation, and landscape composition. Mediums are introduced progressively — younger learners start with crayons and watercolours, while teens and adults advance to oil painting, charcoal, and layered mixed media techniques.

Our small groups of 3-6 students allow tutors to provide individualised instruction tailored to each learner's ability. Every student works at their own pace on their own project, receiving one-on-one feedback throughout the session. This means beginners and more experienced students can learn side by side without holding each other back.

We provide art aprons for every student and use studio-quality materials designed for clean handling. That said, we recommend old, comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a stain on — creativity can be unpredictable! All cleanup is handled by our studio staff, so there is nothing for parents to worry about.

Yes. More than 28,500 students participated in the 2025 Singapore Youth Festival across art forms (MOE, 2025). We support students preparing for the SYF art exhibition by helping them develop strong portfolio pieces, refine their techniques, and articulate their artistic intent. Our tutors provide guidance on composition, medium selection, and presentation standards aligned with SYF criteria. Read our SYF art preparation guide.

Age-appropriate grouping is important for each child's development, so we recommend siblings join the programme suited to their age range. However, siblings within the same age bracket are welcome to attend the same session together. We accommodate family scheduling needs wherever possible — just let us know when booking.

We have two studios in Singapore. Our Bishan studio at 152 Bishan Street 11 is a short walk from Bishan MRT (CC15/NS17), convenient for families in Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Thomson, Marymount, and Serangoon. Our Woodlands studio at Vista Point (548 Woodlands Drive 44) is near Woodlands South MRT (TE3), easily accessible from Admiralty, Marsiling, Sembawang, and Yishun. Both studios are within 5-10 minutes' walk from the nearest MRT station.

Yes. Drawing and painting are widely recognised for reducing stress and promoting mindfulness. A 2016 study in the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association found that 45 minutes of creative activity significantly lowered cortisol levels regardless of artistic experience. Many of our adult and senior students join specifically for relaxation and mental well-being alongside skill development. Our small class sizes and supportive environment make sessions a calming, focused break from daily routines.
