Mini Masters Art Classes

Mini Masters at Art by Ancourage bridges playful art to fine arts for children ages 6–8 in Singapore (Bishan & Woodlands). Weekly classes of 3-6 students develop drawing, painting, and composition skills through structured projects. Research published in npj Science of Learning (2023) found that students completing two or more semesters of structured art programmes see a 0.55 standard deviation increase in overall GPA and a 16% higher likelihood of pursuing postsecondary education (Egana-delSol et al., 2023). Students learn colour theory fundamentals including primary and secondary mixing, warm and cool palettes, and colour harmonies. Composition basics such as foreground and background, visual balance, and focal points are introduced through guided exercises. Each lesson strengthens observation skills as children draw from real objects and reference images. Students explore graphite pencils, coloured pencils, watercolour, and acrylic—building versatility. "Creative confidence grows when technique supports imagination," note our LASALLE-trained instructors. These foundations prepare students for advanced art programmes.
Lessons introduce higher-level art concepts and techniques with themed projects that challenge observation and imagination while strengthening motor skills, focus, and creativity.
Students maintain a personal art journal where they sketch ideas, experiment with colour swatches, and reflect on their progress. This practice builds the habit of regular drawing outside class and gives children a visible record of their artistic growth over each term.

“Every student has a unique creative voice. Our role is to develop strong technical foundations — drawing, painting, composition — so that voice can come through with confidence. In small groups of 3–6, we see each student clearly and guide their growth personally.”

Art Classes for Children Ages 6–8 in Singapore
Mini Masters at Art by Ancourage is designed for children ages 6–8 who are ready to move beyond playful crafts into structured drawing and painting. MOE's refreshed 2024 Primary Art Syllabus expanded the range of media and introduced digital drawing from Primary 1, reflecting the growing importance of visual arts in Singapore's education landscape. Each weekly Mini Masters session builds foundational art skills — line control, shape accuracy, colour mixing, shading, and composition — through guided projects that balance creative freedom with technical instruction. Classes are conducted in small groups of 3–6 children at the Bishan studio (152 Bishan Street 11, near Bishan MRT CC15/NS17) and Woodlands studio (Vista Point, 548 Woodlands Drive 44, near Woodlands South MRT TE3), so every child receives individual attention and meaningful feedback. Unlike generic art enrichment, Mini Masters follows a progressive curriculum: students develop real drawing and painting ability over time, building a portfolio of work they can be proud of. The programme bridges our Crafty Corner (ages 3–5) and Professional Fine Art track (ages 9+), giving children a clear creative pathway. The NAC Population Survey on the Arts (2019)found that 7 in 10 Singaporeans engaged in arts events — early creative engagement supports children's development. Our LASALLE-trained instructors understand how to engage lower primary learners while setting high artistic standards. All materials are provided and $18 trial classes are available.
Structured Art Classes vs. Generic Art Enrichment for Primary School Children
Many art enrichment programmes for children ages 6-8 in Singapore follow a craft-based model: students complete a different standalone project each week with minimal technical instruction. Mini Masters at Art by Ancourage takes a different approach — a progressive curriculum where each session builds on the last. Students develop real drawing and painting fundamentals (line control, proportion, colour theory, shading) through a structured sequence rather than isolated activities. In small groups of 3-6, a LASALLE-trained instructor provides individual feedback on every piece, identifying specific strengths and areas for growth. The result is measurable artistic improvement over weeks and months — not just a collection of unrelated crafts. This structured foundation prepares children for our Professional Fine Art programme (ages 9+) or DSA art portfolio preparation, giving them a clear creative pathway that generic enrichment cannot provide.
