JC / A-Level PhysicsTuition

Ancourage Academy's JC Physics tuition covers JC1 and JC2, including H2 Physics (9478) and H1 Physics (8867). H2 Physics covers Newtonian mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, modern physics, and includes practical assessment. H1 Physics covers mechanics, waves, electricity, and applications without a practical exam. Our small classes of 3-6 students at tuition centres near Bishan MRT and Woodlands South MRT focus on conceptual understanding, mathematical application, and A-Level exam preparation. JC1 builds strong foundations in mechanics, waves, and electricity. JC2 extends to fields, quantum physics, and intensive exam practice including the practical component. Our ESB methodology — combining Ebbinghaus spaced retrieval for formula and principle retention, Socratic questioning to develop physical intuition, and Bruner's scaffolding from concrete experiments to abstract derivations — builds the deep understanding needed for A-Level success. All materials are included with no registration fees, and parents receive regular progress updates plus 24/7 WhatsApp homework support.

How We Teach Physics

Our ESB methodology adapts specifically to physics learning — building lasting understanding through evidence-based teaching strategies.

Ebbinghaus Memory Theory

For JC Physics, spaced retrieval means revisiting key laws, derivations, and problem types at expanding intervals — so Newtonian mechanics stays sharp when studying quantum physics months later.

Socratic Questioning

In JC Physics class, we ask 'What happens to the field if we double the distance?' and 'Can you explain this result using energy conservation?' — building physical intuition, not just formula substitution.

Bruner's Scaffolding

Physics concepts scaffold from concrete observations (lab demonstrations, real-world examples) to mathematical models to abstract derivations — developing the rigour needed for A-Level and university physics.

Learn more about ESB

H2 Physics rewards students who can visualise abstract concepts and apply mathematics fluidly. We don't just teach formulas — we help students build physical intuition through worked examples, past-paper analysis, and problem-solving from first principles.

Common Physics Challenges Parents Notice

These are the most frequent difficulties we help JC / A-Level students overcome

1

The jump from O-Level Physics — A-Level requires calculus-based reasoning and multi-step derivations

2

Fields and potential concepts are abstract — students struggle to visualise and apply field theory

3

Quantum physics contradicts everyday intuition — wave-particle duality and uncertainty feel counterintuitive

4

Practical exam anxiety — planning experiments, recording data, and evaluating uncertainties under time pressure

5

Linking topics together — e.g., applying circular motion concepts within gravitational field problems

6

Managing the sheer volume of formulae and knowing which to apply in unfamiliar contexts

Our Exam Strategies

H1 Physics (8867) has 2 papers: Paper 1 MCQ (30 marks, 1h) and Paper 2 Structured (80 marks, 2h) — no practical exam

Always define variables and state the formula before substituting — method marks can save you even with wrong final answers

Draw diagrams for mechanics and field problems — visual representation helps identify forces, components, and directions

Practical Paper 4: practise planning experiments, recording data tables, plotting graphs, and evaluating uncertainties

For MCQ Paper 1, eliminate clearly wrong options first — use dimensional analysis as a quick check

H2 Physics vs H1 Physics

H2 Physics (9478) covers the full A-Level syllabus with practical assessment. H1 Physics (8867) covers core topics without a practical exam — designed for students who need physics as a contrasting subject.

UniversityRequired for Physics degrees; strongly recommended for Engineering and other STEM programmesAccepted for Life Sciences, Medicine (some), and non-physics STEM courses
Best forStudents aiming for Engineering, Physics, or Computing at universityStudents taking 3 other H2 subjects who want physics breadth without practical demands

H2 Physics requires strong A-Maths foundations. Students without A-Maths background will find H2 Physics very challenging and should consider H1 instead.
