Mixed Media Art Classes

Mixed Media Art at Art by Ancourage in Singapore (Bishan & Woodlands) offers small groups of 3-6 students combining different materials and techniques to create unique artworks. Weekly sessions explore collage, assemblage, texture layering, and experimental forms through guided experimentation. The Singapore government committed $100 million in additional arts funding under the Our SG Arts Plan 2023-2027, reflecting growing national investment in creative development (MCCY). Students learn to combine traditional art materials—paint, ink, charcoal, and pastel—with found objects such as fabric scraps, natural materials, and recycled items to create richly textured, layered compositions. Collage techniques range from precise paper cutting to spontaneous torn-paper layering, while texture building includes gesso modelling and sand embedding. Assemblage projects challenge students to think three-dimensionally, transforming flat compositions into sculptural works. Experimental approaches are encouraged—students test unconventional combinations and embrace happy accidents as creative opportunities. This concept-driven approach develops the critical and creative thinking skills valued in DSA portfolios and higher art education, producing works with genuine depth and personal meaning.
