AI terms, explained
The words you will hear in our workshops, in plain English.
- Generative AI
- AI that creates new content — text, images or code — from a prompt, rather than only classifying or predicting. ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude are generative AI tools.
- Prompt engineering
- Writing clear instructions (prompts) so an AI gives you the result you actually want. It is the core practical skill our workshops build.
- Large language model (LLM)
- The technology behind chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude — a model trained on vast amounts of text to understand and generate language.
- AI agent
- An AI that takes steps to complete a task for you — for example writing and running code — not just answering a question. Claude Code and OpenAI Codex are coding agents.
