Sec 2 G1 Science Tuition
Ancourage Academy · Secondary · Sec 2
Content reviewed: Feb 2026
Sec 2 G1 (formerly Normal Technical) Science tuition at Ancourage Academy in Singapore (Bishan & Woodlands) expands on Sec 1 with more detailed coverage of physical and life science topics. Under Full SBB, Sec 2 is a pivotal year — strong performance supports level-up to G2. Our ESB methodology uses structured experiments and visual learning to deepen understanding.
What Makes Us Different
Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness
Ebbinghaus Memory Theory
Spaced retrieval practice across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology topics — weekly concept checks, monthly cross-topic quizzes, and term revision papers — timed to reinforce scientific vocabulary and process skills before they weaken.
Socratic Questioning
Questions that link experimental evidence to theory — 'What does your data suggest about this hypothesis?' and 'How would you redesign this experiment to improve reliability?' — training students to think like scientists, not just recall facts.
Bruner's Scaffolding
From fully guided practical reports to template-supported analysis to independent evaluation — tutors reduce scaffolding step by step, ensuring students can plan experiments, interpret data, and draw conclusions on their own.

Applying knowledge — using what they have learned to explain new situations
- 5
Exam technique — answering structured questions within time limits
Learning Progression
Builds On
Sec 1 G1 Science with basic observation and recording skills
Prepares For
Upper secondary pathways — G1 students at S3-S4 may take Computing and/or Science electives. Level-up to G2 (≥75%) opens Combined Science options.
Key Transition
Sec 2 G1 Science bridges lower and upper secondary — the practical skills and scientific thinking developed here support both applied learning pathways (Computing, ITE) and potential level-up to G2 Combined Science.
“Lower secondary Science gives students their first taste of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as distinct disciplines. Building strong laboratory skills, scientific vocabulary, and structured answer techniques here makes the transition to upper secondary specialisation much smoother.”

Frequently Asked Questions
From 2026, G1 students at upper secondary must take at least Computing or Science as an elective. Students who level up to G2 can access Combined Science. Sec 2 is the key year for building the foundations for either pathway.
Yes. Schools assess at the end of Sec 2, and students achieving 75% or above may level up to G2 Science, which opens pathways to Combined Science in upper secondary. Our tuition builds the conceptual depth needed for this transition.
Many ITE Nitec programmes (e.g., Engineering, Electronics, Health Sciences) require basic scientific understanding. G1 Science builds the practical foundation — observation, measurement, and logical thinking — that ITE programmes build upon.
Each G1 Science class is capped at 3-6 students, so our tutors can provide hands-on, patient guidance tailored to each learner's pace. Sec 2 builds on foundational skills with more real-world applications. Visit our pricing page for fees, or book a trial class — free (usually $18).
G1 students can progress to ITE (Nitec and Higher Nitec programmes), with further pathways to polytechnic via Higher Nitec. Practical Science skills built here support success across many vocational courses and workplace settings. In Sec 2, we consolidate core skills for the demands ahead. Read our secondary Science tuition guide.
Our Bishan centre is 10 minutes on foot from Bishan MRT (NS17/CC15, North-South and Circle Lines). Our Woodlands centre at Vista Point is 5 minutes from Woodlands South MRT (TE3, Thomson-East Coast Line). Sec 2 students from Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary, Catholic High Secondary, Raffles Institution and Woodgrove Secondary, Christ Church Secondary, Woodlands Secondary attend regularly.
Our small-group classes are intentionally kept between 3 and 6 students so every learner receives close guidance, timely feedback, and ample practice.
Each lesson is 2 hours, providing ample time for thorough coverage of topics and interactive learning.
Yes. All lesson materials and worksheets are provided and included in the fees. Students should bring regular stationery and, where applicable, school textbooks/workbooks for reference.
Yes. Our materials and pacing align with the MOE syllabus. External syllabuses (e.g. IGCSE, IB) are available upon request.
