Secondary 2 (Sec 2) Science tuition at Ancourage Academy in Singapore (Bishan & Woodlands) offers small-group classes of 3-6 students, following Singapore's MOE syllabus. Weekly 2-hour lessons use our ESB methodology to integrate Biology, Chemistry, and Physics concepts for strong upper-secondary science subject choices under Full SBB. "Curiosity drives scientific discovery—we channel it through guided inquiry and hands-on exploration," explains our teaching faculty. Our structured approach helps students qualify for Pure Sciences or build strong Combined Science foundations.
What Makes Us Different
Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness
Ebbinghaus Memory Theory
Spaced retrieval practice across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology topics — weekly concept checks, monthly cross-topic quizzes, and term revision papers — timed to reinforce scientific vocabulary and process skills before they weaken.
Socratic Questioning
Questions that link experimental evidence to theory — 'What does your data suggest about this hypothesis?' and 'How would you redesign this experiment to improve reliability?' — training students to think like scientists, not just recall facts.
Bruner's Scaffolding
From fully guided practical reports to template-supported analysis to independent evaluation — tutors reduce scaffolding step by step, ensuring students can plan experiments, interpret data, and draw conclusions on their own.

What Sec 2 students commonly work on
- 1
Integrating concepts — connecting ideas from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- 2
Structured answers — using keywords and logical flow in explanations
- 3
Practical skills — identifying variables and planning basic controlled experiments
- 4
Applying to new contexts — using knowledge in unfamiliar scenarios
- 5
Subject selection — preparing for Pure or Combined Science choices
Learning Progression
Builds On
Sec 1 Science with foundational concepts in life, matter, and energy
Prepares For
Upper Secondary Pure or Combined Sciences with specialised focus areas
Key Transition
Science pathway decisions crystallise in lower secondary Sec 2 — students demonstrate readiness for Pure Sciences or build foundations for Combined Science based on aptitude and interest.
“Lower secondary Science gives students their first taste of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as distinct disciplines. Building strong laboratory skills, scientific vocabulary, and structured answer techniques here makes the transition to upper secondary specialisation much smoother.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Sec 2 Science grades determine whether students qualify for Pure Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Combined Science pathways. Strong performance opens more options and positions students for science-related careers and university courses. Read our secondary Science tuition guide.
This depends on aptitude, interest, and future goals. Pure Sciences suit students considering STEM fields in university; Combined Science is appropriate for those pursuing non-science paths. We help students identify their strengths during Sec 2.
Sec 2 integrates concepts from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, requiring students to connect ideas across disciplines. Structured answering with scientific keywords and experimental design skills also demand more rigour than Sec 1.
We run weekly 2-hour Science sessions at our Bishan and Woodlands branches, with 3-6 students per class for targeted support. Sec 2 is a pivotal year for consolidating skills — our small groups ensure every student gets the guidance they need. Visit our pricing page for fees, or book a trial class — free (usually $18).
With only 3-6 students per class, our tutors identify each student's specific challenges quickly. Our ESB methodology uses Ebbinghaus spaced review for long-term retention, Socratic questioning for deeper understanding, and Bruner's scaffolding for systematic skill building — targeting root causes rather than surface symptoms. In Sec 2, we consolidate science inquiry skills and prepare for upper secondary specialisation. Learn more in our secondary Science tuition guide.
Our Sec 2 Science students come from schools across two catchment areas: Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary, Catholic High Secondary, Raffles Institution near our Bishan centre, and Woodgrove Secondary, Christ Church Secondary, Woodlands Secondary near our Woodlands centre. Both centres are within walking distance of an MRT station. Try a class to see if our approach suits your child.
Our small-group classes are intentionally kept between 3 and 6 students so every learner receives close guidance, timely feedback, and ample practice.
Each lesson is 2 hours, providing ample time for thorough coverage of topics and interactive learning.
Yes. All lesson materials and worksheets are provided and included in the fees. Students should bring regular stationery and, where applicable, school textbooks/workbooks for reference.
Yes. Our materials and pacing align with the MOE syllabus. External syllabuses (e.g. IGCSE, IB) are available upon request.
