Sec 1 G1 Science Tuition
Ancourage Academy · Secondary · Sec 1
Content reviewed: Feb 2026
Sec 1 G1 (formerly Normal Technical) Science tuition at Ancourage Academy in Singapore (Bishan & Woodlands) offers small-group classes of 3-6 students. Under Full SBB, G1 Science takes a hands-on, practical approach — students learn through observation, simple experiments, and real-world connections. Our ESB methodology makes science accessible by starting from what students can see and touch.
What Makes Us Different
Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness
Ebbinghaus Memory Theory
Spaced retrieval practice across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology topics — weekly concept checks, monthly cross-topic quizzes, and term revision papers — timed to reinforce scientific vocabulary and process skills before they weaken.
Socratic Questioning
Questions that link experimental evidence to theory — 'What does your data suggest about this hypothesis?' and 'How would you redesign this experiment to improve reliability?' — training students to think like scientists, not just recall facts.
Bruner's Scaffolding
From fully guided practical reports to template-supported analysis to independent evaluation — tutors reduce scaffolding step by step, ensuring students can plan experiments, interpret data, and draw conclusions on their own.

What Sec 1 G1 Science students commonly work on
- 1
Scientific vocabulary — learning key terms and using them in simple sentences
- 2
Recording observations — writing down what they see, hear, or measure systematically
- 3
Connecting science to daily life — recognising science in cooking, weather, and machines
- 4
Reading diagrams — extracting information from scientific illustrations and labels
- 5
Answering in sentences — moving beyond one-word answers to short explanations

Key Transition
Lower secondary Sec 1 G1 Science sparks curiosity through practical discovery — students who enjoy hands-on learning thrive when science connects to things they can observe in their own lives.
“Lower secondary Science gives students their first taste of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as distinct disciplines. Building strong laboratory skills, scientific vocabulary, and structured answer techniques here makes the transition to upper secondary specialisation much smoother.”

Frequently Asked Questions
G1 Science emphasises hands-on observation and practical understanding of everyday phenomena. G2 covers similar topics with more depth, technical vocabulary, and structured written responses. Both lead to the SEC examination at their respective levels.
Yes. Schools assess regularly, and students achieving 75% or above may level up to G2. Our tuition builds observation skills, scientific vocabulary, and structured responses — the foundations needed for level-up.
G1 Science includes practical activities and guided experiments. At Ancourage, we use demonstrations, hands-on materials, and real-world examples to reinforce concepts. School lab skills are also practised through our structured approach.
Our Sec 1 G1 Science classes have just 3-6 students, giving tutors the space to provide patient, step-by-step guidance using everyday contexts. See our pricing page for fees, or try a trial class — free (usually $18).
G1 students can progress to ITE (Nitec and Higher Nitec programmes), with further pathways to polytechnic via Higher Nitec. Practical Science skills built here support success across many vocational courses and workplace settings. Starting in Sec 1, we build a strong foundation for this journey. Read our secondary Science tuition guide.
Our Sec 1 G1 Science students come from schools across two catchment areas: Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary, Catholic High Secondary, Raffles Institution near our Bishan centre, and Woodgrove Secondary, Christ Church Secondary, Woodlands Secondary near our Woodlands centre. Both centres are within walking distance of an MRT station. Try a class to see if our approach suits your child.
Our small-group classes are intentionally kept between 3 and 6 students so every learner receives close guidance, timely feedback, and ample practice.
Each lesson is 2 hours, providing ample time for thorough coverage of topics and interactive learning.
Yes. All lesson materials and worksheets are provided and included in the fees. Students should bring regular stationery and, where applicable, school textbooks/workbooks for reference.
Yes. Our materials and pacing align with the MOE syllabus. External syllabuses (e.g. IGCSE, IB) are available upon request.
