P4 Science tuition at Ancourage Academy in Bishan and Woodlands, Singapore. Primary 4 introduces heat and temperature, light, the human digestive system, and plant life cycles — topics that build directly on P3 foundations. In our small classes of 3-6 students, P4 children develop systems thinking and scientific explanation skills through hands-on, MOE-aligned weekly 1.5-hour lessons.
What Makes Us Different
Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness
Ebbinghaus Memory Theory
Spaced retrieval practice across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology topics — weekly concept checks, monthly cross-topic quizzes, and term revision papers — timed to reinforce scientific vocabulary and process skills before they weaken.
Socratic Questioning
Questions that link experimental evidence to theory — 'What does your data suggest about this hypothesis?' and 'How would you redesign this experiment to improve reliability?' — training students to think like scientists, not just recall facts.
Bruner's Scaffolding
From fully guided practical reports to template-supported analysis to independent evaluation — tutors reduce scaffolding step by step, ensuring students can plan experiments, interpret data, and draw conclusions on their own.

What Are the Hardest P4 Science Topics?
- 1
Linking concepts — connecting ideas across different topics like energy and matter
- 2
Explaining processes — describing step-by-step how things work (digestion, photosynthesis)
- 3
Experimental design — understanding what makes a fair test and why controls matter
- 4
Using scientific vocabulary — expressing ideas using correct terminology
- 5
Novel problem-solving — transferring learnt concepts to everyday situations and unfamiliar examples
Learning Progression
Builds On
P3 Science with basic life cycles, diversity of living things, and scientific inquiry skills
Prepares For
P5 Science with cycles (reproduction, water), cell and electrical systems, and PSLE-style application questions
Key Transition
Systems thinking takes root in upper primary P4 Science — students analyse how components interact within the human body, plant structures, and physical systems.
“P5 and P6 Science preparation requires more than content knowledge — students must master process skills like analysing data tables, constructing explanations, and applying concepts to unfamiliar scenarios. We train students to think systematically so they can tackle any PSLE question with confidence.”

Frequently Asked Questions
P4 introduces systems thinking — understanding how the digestive, circulatory, and plant systems work. Students also learn about matter and heat concepts. The focus shifts from individual facts to understanding connections and processes. Read our primary science tips.
We teach students to understand concepts rather than just memorise facts. Through hands-on experiments, real-world examples, and targeted practice with application questions on topics like heat transfer and the digestive system, students learn to apply their knowledge confidently to new and unfamiliar scenarios.
We focus on understanding scientific concepts deeply, using correct terminology, and structuring answers clearly with proper cause-and-effect reasoning. Students practise explaining processes step-by-step using scientific keywords and learn to address all parts of open-ended and MCQ questions systematically for full marks.
