Sec 4 G2 E-Maths Tuition
Ancourage Academy · Secondary · Sec 4
Content reviewed: Feb 2026
SEC G2 E-Maths (Elementary Mathematics, also written E Math or EMath) covers algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and mensuration — and most marks are lost on algebraic manipulation and multi-step word problems. Our Sec 4 G2 E-Maths programme at Ancourage Academy (Bishan & Woodlands) prioritises the high-mark topics where focused revision yields the greatest grade improvement. Our ESB methodology applies Ebbinghaus spaced practice to retain formulas and methods, Socratic questioning to diagnose conceptual gaps in algebra, and Bruner's spiral to revisit weaker topics at progressively harder levels. In small groups of 3-6, students work through actual SEC papers and build the systematic checking habits that eliminate careless errors.
What Makes Us Different
Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness
Ebbinghaus Memory Theory
Self-directed retrieval cycles across algebra, calculus, and applied topics — students identify their weakest areas through diagnostic tests and schedule targeted reviews, building the metacognitive discipline needed for A-Level and university mathematics.
Socratic Questioning
Rigorous questioning on proofs and multi-step solutions — 'Is this the most efficient method?' and 'Where might this approach fail for edge cases?' — developing the precision and logical completeness expected at higher levels.
Bruner's Scaffolding
Tutors present challenging, multi-concept problems and step back — intervening only when students are genuinely stuck on a mathematical connection — preparing them to structure solutions to questions they have never encountered.

Curriculum Overview
- ✓Algebra: Expansion, factorisation, quadratic equations, and simultaneous equations — focused on algebraic manipulation accuracy under pressure.
- ✓Geometry and trigonometry: Angle properties, congruence, similarity, trigonometric ratios (SOH CAH TOA), and bearings with solution presentation.
- ✓Statistics and probability: Mean, median, mode, standard deviation, cumulative frequency curves, and probability calculations.
- ✓Mensuration: Area and volume of composite shapes, prisms, cylinders, cones, and spheres with formula application.
- ✓Number and proportion: Percentages, ratio, rate, speed, and real-world application problems.
- ✓Graphs and functions: Linear, quadratic, and other function graphs — sketch, interpret, and solve graphically.
- ✓Problem-solving: Multi-step word problems requiring integration of multiple mathematical concepts.
- ✓SEC paper technique: Calculator efficiency, solution layout for method marks, and time allocation across both papers.
What Sec 4 G2 E-Maths students commonly work on
- 1
Time pressure — completing both papers within SEC examination time limits
- 2
Careless errors — reducing avoidable mistakes in calculations and formula application
- 3
Topic gaps — closing remaining knowledge gaps before the SEC examination
- 4
Show working — presenting solutions clearly to earn method marks
- 5
Exam confidence — maintaining composure when encountering unfamiliar question formats

SEC G2 Elementary Mathematics examination (Grades 1-6)
Key Transition
Upper secondary Sec 4 is the final sprint — the goal is achieving the best possible SEC G2 E-Maths grade through systematic revision and exam practice.
“E-Maths covers the full breadth of the O-Level / SEC Mathematics syllabus — from algebra and geometry to statistics and probability. Consistent practice with structured problem-solving builds the fluency students need to handle the exam's time pressure and multi-step questions confidently.”

Frequently Asked Questions
SEC G2 E-Maths uses a 1-6 grade scale (Grade 1 highest, Grade 5 pass). The examination consists of two papers testing core mathematical skills and application.
Grade boundaries vary each year and are not published in advance. Focus on maximising accuracy and completing all questions. Our past paper practice helps students gauge their likely performance.
A-Maths is typically G3 only. If your child is strong in G2 E-Maths, discuss level-up possibilities with the school. In Sec 4, the priority is achieving the best possible E-Maths grade.
Our Sec 4 G2 E-Maths classes are kept to 3-6 students for intensive, personalised exam preparation. Tutors use scaffolded instruction and targeted practice to maximise each student's SEC examination performance. Visit our pricing page for fees, or start with a trial class — free (usually $18).
G2 students can progress to polytechnic, ITE, or level up to G3 subjects for O-Level preparation. Strong SEC results in E-Maths support diverse post-secondary pathways, including JC (via G3 level-up). Our tuition builds both skills and confidence for any direction. In this final year, focused revision maximises SEC results and post-secondary choices.
Our Sec 4 G2 E-Maths tuition is available at our Bishan centre (10 min from Bishan MRT, Circle and North-South Lines) and Woodlands centre (5 min from Woodlands South MRT, Thomson-East Coast Line). Students from Whitley Secondary, Guangyang Secondary, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary in Bishan, and Marsiling Secondary, Woodlands Ring Secondary, Woodgrove Secondary in Woodlands, attend our classes.
Our small-group classes are intentionally kept between 3 and 6 students so every learner receives close guidance, timely feedback, and ample practice.
Each lesson is 2 hours, providing ample time for thorough coverage of topics and interactive learning.
Yes. All lesson materials and worksheets are provided and included in the fees. Students should bring regular stationery and, where applicable, school textbooks/workbooks for reference.
Yes. Our materials and pacing align with the MOE syllabus. External syllabuses (e.g. IGCSE, IB) are available upon request.
