What Makes Us Different

Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness

Sec 1 G2 Maths Tuition class at Ancourage Academy, Bishan & Woodlands
🧠

Ebbinghaus Memory Theory

Planned retrieval of problem-solving heuristics and formulae at expanding intervals — weekly topical practices, monthly mixed-topic papers, and term revision cycles — keeping methods accessible so exam performance matches classroom understanding.

💭

Socratic Questioning

Questions that probe mathematical reasoning — 'Why did you choose this heuristic?' and 'What changes if the ratio doubles?' — exposing gaps between procedural fluency and conceptual understanding before they compound.

📈

Bruner's Scaffolding

From fully worked examples to guided practice with prompts to independent problem-solving — tutors systematically fade hints so students develop their own approach to unfamiliar question types.

Curriculum Overview

  • Whole numbers and operations: Consolidation of arithmetic with integers, fractions, decimals, and percentages through practical contexts.
  • Introduction to algebra: Variables, simple expressions, and linear equations with concrete-to-abstract scaffolding.
  • Ratio and proportion: Practical ratio problems using everyday scenarios like recipes, maps, and scales.
  • Basic geometry: Properties of angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals with visual and hands-on approaches.
  • Data handling: Reading and interpreting tables, bar charts, and pictograms for real-world data.
  • Problem-solving skills: Step-by-step heuristics with guided templates for word problems.

What Sec 1 G2 Maths students commonly work on

  • 1

Number sense — building confidence with negative numbers and decimal operations

  • 2

Word problems — translating everyday scenarios into mathematical equations

  • 3

Algebraic thinking — understanding what variables represent in practical contexts

  • 4

Showing working — presenting solutions step by step for full credit

  • 5

Maths anxiety — overcoming hesitation and building a positive relationship with mathematics

💡

Key Transition

Lower secondary Sec 1 G2 Maths bridges primary arithmetic and secondary algebra — building confidence with numbers now prevents gaps from widening in upper secondary.

Secondary 1 and 2 Mathematics introduces algebra, geometry proofs, and data analysis — a significant conceptual leap from primary arithmetic. Students who build strong algebraic fluency here find upper secondary topics far more manageable, while those who fall behind face compounding difficulties.

Frequently Asked Questions

G2 Mathematics focuses on practical number work, guided algebra, and real-world applications with more scaffolding. G3 covers the same topics at greater depth with more abstract reasoning and complex problem-solving. Both lead to SEC examinations at their respective levels.

Yes. Schools assess at the end of each year, and students achieving 75% or higher in the subject (a commonly published threshold — each school sets its own criteria) may level up to G3. Our tuition strengthens foundational skills and builds the confidence needed for this transition.

Our small classes (3-6 students) create a supportive environment where students can ask questions without pressure. We use concrete examples, visual aids, and progressive difficulty to rebuild confidence and make maths feel achievable.

Our Sec 1 G2 Mathematics classes have 3-6 students, so tutors can provide the scaffolded, step-by-step support that helps G2 students build confidence from the start. See our pricing page for fees, or try a trial class — free (usually $18).

G2 students can progress to polytechnic, ITE, or level up to G3 subjects for O-Level preparation. Strong results in Mathematics support diverse post-secondary pathways, including JC (via G3 level-up). Our tuition builds both skills and confidence for any direction. Building strong foundations in Sec 1 sets the stage for these pathways. Read our secondary Maths tuition guide.

Yes — our Bishan centre is a 10-minute walk from Bishan MRT (Circle and North-South Lines). Sec 1 students from Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary, Catholic High Secondary, Raffles Institution and surrounding schools attend our G2 Mathematics classes. We also have a Woodlands centre for families in the North. Book a trial class at Bishan.

Our small-group classes are intentionally kept between 3 and 6 students so every learner receives close guidance, timely feedback, and ample practice.

Each lesson is 2 hours, providing ample time for thorough coverage of topics and interactive learning.

Yes. All lesson materials and worksheets are provided and included in the fees. Students should bring regular stationery and, where applicable, school textbooks/workbooks for reference.

Yes. Our materials and pacing align with the MOE syllabus. External syllabuses (e.g. IGCSE, IB) are available upon request.

This course covers G2 (mapped from Normal Academic standard) Mathematics under Singapore's Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB). We also support students at other G-levels. Contact us to discuss your child's current G-level and the best class arrangement.
