Sec 1 G1 (formerly Normal Technical) English tuition at Ancourage Academy in Singapore (Bishan & Woodlands) offers small groups of 3-6 learners. Under Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB), G1 English develops practical communication skills — reading everyday texts, writing for real purposes, and speaking with confidence. Our ESB methodology uses familiar contexts and step-by-step scaffolding so every student experiences success.
What Makes Us Different
Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness
Ebbinghaus Memory Theory
Spaced retrieval of grammar rules, vocabulary, and comprehension techniques — weekly language quizzes, fortnightly essay rewrites, and term-end timed practices — so skills stay exam-ready rather than crammed and forgotten.
Socratic Questioning
Targeted questions on passages and compositions — 'What is the author's purpose here?' and 'Can you rephrase this more precisely?' — training students to evaluate language critically and revise their own writing.
Bruner's Scaffolding
From annotated model answers to guided drafts to independent composition — tutors progressively withdraw sentence starters, planning scaffolds, and editing checklists as students internalise the writing process.

Key Transition
Lower secondary Sec 1 G1 English builds the practical communication foundation that students need for everyday life and further learning — confidence with English opens doors across all subjects.
“The transition from primary to secondary English is where many students quietly fall behind — the jump to continuous writing, visual text comprehension, and literary analysis happens fast. We help students build the analytical reading and structured essay skills that prevent this gap from widening.”
