What Makes Us Different

Our proven teaching methodology combines evidence-based approaches for maximum learning effectiveness

Sec 3 G2 A-Maths Tuition class at Ancourage Academy, Bishan & Woodlands
🧠

Ebbinghaus Memory Theory

Self-directed retrieval cycles across algebra and geometry topics — students identify their weakest areas through diagnostic tests and schedule targeted reviews, building the metacognitive discipline the O-Level / SEC mathematics papers demand.

💭

Socratic Questioning

Rigorous questioning on proofs and multi-step solutions — 'Is this the most efficient method?' and 'Where might this approach fail for edge cases?' — developing the precision and logical completeness expected at higher levels.

📈

Bruner's Scaffolding

Tutors present challenging, multi-concept problems and step back — intervening only when students are genuinely stuck on a mathematical connection — preparing them to structure solutions to questions they have never encountered.

What Sec 3 G2 A-Maths students commonly work on

  • 1

Abstract concepts — developing comfort with variables, functions, and algebraic reasoning

  • 2

Multi-step solutions — maintaining accuracy through longer problem-solving sequences

  • 3

Trigonometric identities — recognising when and how to apply standard identities

  • 4

Differentiation concepts — understanding what gradients and rates of change represent

  • 5

Connecting topics — seeing how algebra, trigonometry, and calculus relate to each other

Key Transition

Upper secondary G2 A-Maths introduces abstract mathematical thinking — students need patient scaffolding to build confidence with concepts that feel very different from E-Maths.

A-Maths demands a different mindset — the syllabus focuses on calculus, trigonometric identities, and algebraic proofs that require sustained logical reasoning. Students who develop strong working in JC-preparatory topics here find the jump to H2 Maths far less daunting.

Frequently Asked Questions

G2 A-Maths (also written A Math, AMath, or Add Maths) covers core additional mathematics topics at a more accessible pace. G3 A-Maths includes more advanced proofs and applications. Both prepare students for post-secondary pathways, with G2 providing solid foundations for polytechnic STEM courses.

A-Maths builds heavily on E-Maths foundations. We recommend strengthening E-Maths first. If your child is comfortable with G2 E-Maths, A-Maths can be a beneficial addition with proper support.

Yes, particularly for engineering and IT courses. A strong G2 A-Maths grade demonstrates mathematical readiness and can strengthen polytechnic applications in STEM fields.

With only 3-6 students per class, our Sec 3 G2 A-Maths tutors deliver scaffolded, step-by-step instruction tailored to each student's pace. Upper secondary is when focused support makes the biggest difference for exam readiness. Check our pricing page for current fees, or book a trial class — free (usually $18).

G2 students can progress to polytechnic, ITE, or level up to G3 subjects for O-Level preparation. Strong SEC results in A-Maths support diverse post-secondary pathways, including JC (via G3 level-up). Our tuition builds both skills and confidence for any direction. Starting O-Level preparation in Sec 3 is crucial for keeping these pathways open.

Our Sec 3 G2 A-Maths students come from schools across two catchment areas: Whitley Secondary, Guangyang Secondary, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary near our Bishan centre, and Marsiling Secondary, Woodlands Ring Secondary, Woodgrove Secondary near our Woodlands centre. Both centres are within walking distance of an MRT station. Try a class to see if our approach suits your child.

Our small-group classes are intentionally kept between 3 and 6 students so every learner receives close guidance, timely feedback, and ample practice.

Each lesson is 2 hours, providing ample time for thorough coverage of topics and interactive learning.

Yes. All lesson materials and worksheets are provided and included in the fees. Students should bring regular stationery and, where applicable, school textbooks/workbooks for reference.

Yes. Our materials and pacing align with the MOE syllabus. External syllabuses (e.g. IGCSE, IB) are available upon request.

This course covers G2 (mapped from Normal Academic standard) A Maths under Singapore's Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB). We also support students at other G-levels. Contact us to discuss your child's current G-level and the best class arrangement.
